The Dream Thieves

By Maggie Stiefvater: Audiobook review

If you know me, you know I’m super fussy with audiobook narrators and if it doesn’t sit right with me, I can’t get on with it.
Well not a problem with this book, The Dream Thieves, nay the whole series, I really enjoyed this and I think a lot of that is to do with Will Patton as the narrator who just oozes southern charm. He manages to make all the characters sound distinctly separate and without the women sounding like cheesy parodies (ok so I still think his voice for Persephone makes her sound like Family Guy’s Consuela, but then at some point it is mentioned that she can appear both old and young at the same time, so maybe appropriate somehow?).
I’m assuming that whoever is reading this, is at least familiar with book 1 (The Raven Boys). Well, we saw quite a bit of growth in several of the boys, lots of new magic and some interesting new characters and love interests. However this book is essentially Ronan’s story, how he ended up with the relationships he has with his older brother Declan, and what he inherited from his dad, although it still touchers on Adam quite a bit.

Without adding spoilers the finale involving Ronan’s mum was just the icing on the cake for me, so well wrapped up as much as book 2 in a series can be.
Also the main thing that sparked this post was fact that the author makes some amazing music, the audiobook has a spooky intro and at the end had a whole track after the outro that is so perfect for the mood and turns out is written by the author? Just chef’s kiss

Did I mention I its a 5/5 stars from me? Well it is, for the whole package. I finished the audiobook today and immediately grabbed the next one from my library, excited to dive in tomorrow!
